This week’s Best Book is Philip Jenkins’, The New Faces of Christianity: Believing the Bible in the Global South. Jenkins presents a thoroughly-researched, well thought-out, and highly provocative prediction of the future of global Christianity in the 21st century. This is a book every pastor and laity leader will find insightful and helpful.

Okay, the title is a bit laborious, but it masks a wealth of common sense and practical wisdom. Sub-titled "Seven Languages for Transformation," this short book helps us better understand the ways our language and best intentions often work against our greatest hopes and intentions. Being mindful of how we communicate and adopting more appropriate alternatives enable us to be more effective and to achieve our goals. Very practical and straightforward advice and scholarship makes this a valuable resource for healthy communication.

Beautiful Friction - The Fixx

It does my heart good to see an alternative rock band still cranking out good music at the dawn of their fourth decade! Their sound is not that unique -- could be dozens of bands play the music -- but their lyrics set them apart. For years, The Fixx has wrestled with spiritual, cultural, ethical, and philosophical topics in their songs, and their newest album is no exception. Listening to this album is difficult because it is so evocative. Songs like Anyone Else, What God?, Small Thoughts, Something Ahead of You and Beautiful Friction cause you to pause, reflect, and before long you find yourself in some deep, deep thoughts. It is music you have to really listen to, but the effort is worth it.
